OH NOES, MY CAT IS IN HEAT!

Peachy, Siamese Cat

That up there would be my baby, Peachy. We got her December last year so I’m guessing she’s about 6-7 months old. Now as much as I love cats (and all animals, actually, except ugly ones like snakes and chihuahuas) and despite having a handful for pets, I admit to not knowing much about them (save for cat care basics and how to keep them happy and cute).

So OMG, why is my baby in heat!!! She’s not even allowed to date yet!

Peachy isn’t spayed since my mom plans on finding her a fine upstanding Siamese boycat to mate and breed with. The thing is, she’s still too young to have babies and her being in heat is killing me. I asked the internet for help (meaning I googled ‘cat is in heat‘) hoping I’d find some tips to make it a little easier for Peachy. Aside from this completely horrifying tip involving a Q-tip and some very unfunny youtube videos, I also learned that there are health risks (risks that eventually lead to death) involved when you don’t have your kitty spayed.

I feel like crying.

She keeps calling out for tomcats and it’s driving me insane and all I want to do is let her out of her cage but I don’t want her mating with the ugly neighborhood males, either. Lover keeps telling me not to stress about it and I keep trying to convince myself that it’s for her own good but whenever I hear her meowing pitifully, my heart just breaks.

Have any of you ever had to deal with a cat in heat? Help!

Q-tip…? Is it for what I think it is…?

OMG IKR. It’s apparently still ~better~ than a tomcat’s barbed penis. WTF.

Awww, sowee. All of my cats are males so I didn’t see the need to have them spayed. Hmmm, I used to have a female kitty, but she’s just a stray who happened to just stay at our house one time and never left. Well, she did eventually, leaving 3 kitties behind. Hmmm, I think it would be better if you bring her to the vet to be spayed. I read somewhere it could decrease risks for cancer of the reproductive organs.

Ahahaha that’s pretty funny but I think it’s good of you to not create anymore babies.. there are already too many stray cats and dogs around which is really saddening.

And hey! Chihuahua’s are sooo cute…especially the babies! What you talkin’ about! =P

OMG! I remember when Socks went into heat and we didn’t know what was wrong because we always had boy cats, haha. FAIL on our part, haha.

    Hello Helga,

Yikes I feel for you. Poor kitty
I was also shocked that my 7 month old kitty gave birth. she’s really like an adolescent cat.

Her mother gave birth to that kitty the previous year and she is such a baby. I have never heard her meowing or acting like in heat. I never saw her take interest in male cats, unlike the other adult ladies that flirt outrageously.

suddenly I noticed her being unusually quiet and reflective, she has become a snob and very picky with her food.

then much to my amazement her tummy started becoming bigger (though not as big as the other normal preggy cats- which worried me), and next thing I know, she’s got a litter of her own.

her kittens were very healthy but she was clueless as a mother. she even gave birth in the middle of the grass outside instead of a safe, enclosed, hidden place.

so just in case your Peachy gets preggo, I think it’s gonna be safe. still, I think she’s too young to be a mother.

Can’t really offer any advice unfortunately.

Our by cat was neutered so he can’t get up to mischief. It has made him fat and cuddly though.

The only thing he cries out for is food (he’s on a relatively strict diet). I’ve learned to ignore him though, as it’s better than him getting (even) fatter.

Whoa. Never knew that death was a drawback of being too horny. Our cat was left unspayed for years, but I didn’t complain because the only time the damn thing ever liked me was when she was in heat. I’m not a boy cat, but apparently she was too horny to notice.

I think that might work with people too…

Take care of your kitty! Siameses are so cute!

Ah, I know how annoying it is when they do that mating call thing. Once there was 3 stray cats outside of my pop’s house that kept doing it and I went nuts. Can’t help ya out, I’ve never owned a kittie. :(
