The Hunger Games trilogy

I don’t know what to say about The Hunger Games Trilogy except that it was amazing (so amazing that I read the entire series in less than 72 hours), brought me to tears, kept me tossing and turning at night you’d think I needed sleeping pills (I have this bad habit of stopping reading just when the action begins i.e. middle of the games), and that I have a silly crush on fictional Peeta Mellark.

For those who have never heard of the trilogy, here’s a snippet from its Wikipedia article:

It introduces sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives in a post-apocalyptic world in the country of Panem where North America once stood. This is where a powerful government working in a central city called the Capitol holds power. In the book, the Hunger Games are an annual televised event where the Capitol chooses one boy and one girl from each district to fight to the death until only one remains. The purpose of the Hunger Games is to demonstrate that no one, including children, is above the Capitol’s power.

I know that I’m late on The Hunger Games bandwagon but in a way, I’m glad I waited ’til the entire trilogy was done before picking it up. Else, I would’ve tortured myself with excitement and anticipation… much like the Harry Potter series. I’m definitely going to need to pick up real copies (I have the eBooks).

This weekend, I vow to be free of alcohol so I’m gearing up by downloading new eBooks to read tonight. I’m thinking of His Dark Materials (Philip Pullman), The Underland Chronicles (Suzanne Collins), or The Host (lol SMeyer). I just hope I can find them online.

I wasn’t very interested in this trilogy until the husband asked for a copy. So when he was done, I tried reading Book 1 and I was hooked until the end. When I was reading it, I cannot wait to go home everyday so I can go back to it. LOL. And oh, I’m a Peeta fan girl, too. LOL.

I can so relate to the tossing and turning/sleep deprivation. I finished book 1 in less than a day. <3

All the time, I sympathize with Peeta, martyr e. But what I really like is the moral dilemmas Katniss goes through vis-a-vis the silent rebellion of thos around her. :)

Oooh. I keep seeing Hunger Games in some local bookstores but usually ignore the books. I often go for fantasy-adventure books.

My finding your blog post about the trilogy is perfect. Now to hie off to the nearest bookstore and grab copies. Gotta have something to read on the beaches of Boracay. :)
