Generic 2011 Survey

2011 in review

Normally, I avoid things like this. Nothing else makes me feel as inadequate and inferior as looking back at the year that was and feeling like I just spent 98% of my time nursing hangovers or eating junk food in my couch while fist-pumping to Jersey Shore. I kid you not, I really do fist-pump to Jersey Shore (and other things, like finding a can of Ma Ling in the kitchen) while around the house.

These year-end surveys are generally not good for my well-being. That, and no one really cares about these things (exceptions: my boyfriend and probably me, when I’m 40). But then, maybe it could be a good thing for me to start doing these things so I can be motivated to do better the next year, ya know?

1. What did you do in 2011 that you’d never done before?
Shave the side of my head. The Azta stylist botched it up, though, so I might do it properly in 2012. We’ll see.

Malaysia Day 1: Nuffnang Asia-Pacific Blog Awards

NAPBAS 2011

As everyone knows, I (with 30+ other bloggers from the Philippines) traveled to Malaysia last December 16 for the bi-annual Nuffnang Asia-Pacific Blog Awards (aka the NAPBAS). I was a finalist for Most Original Blog Design and I sadly did not come home with a glass trophy and a new Olympus camera. That’s okay, though! I mean, the only thing worse than being a loser is being a sore loser and I honestly have nothing to pout about because the Nuffnang folks made sure we had one hell of a trip! Plus, being a finalist was/is already an honor, when you consider the selection process that went into it (hindi lang basta-basta!).

Watching This MMFF: My House Husband

Eugene Domingo plays Aida in this rom-com about switched gender roles.

I am going to be honest here: I don’t care much about the annual Metro Manila Film Festival. There are a lot of things I look forward to, once December comes rolling in— the cold weather, the pretty Christmas lights, my mom’s crema de fruta, and Bath and Body Works’ Holiday Traditions line (currently obsessed with Vanilla Bean Noel). But when it comes to the ~2 week MMFF cinema monopoly that begins on Christmas day, I’m… disinterested.

EXCEPT NOT THIS YEAR. In 2006, my mom dragged me to see Kasal, Kasali, Kasalo and found myself pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it; the next year, we went to see Sakal, Sakali, Saklolo. While I am still not a big fan of mainstream local cinema (I will admit to liking the earlier Mano Po movies, though), I have become a fan of real-life couple Judy Ann Santos and Ryan Agoncillo’s work. This year, I am looking forward to seeing My House Husband which also stars everyone’s favorite actress, Eugene Domingo.

Special Effects Cherry Bomb

HELLO, WORLD! I’M YOUR WILD GIRL! I’M YOUR CH-CH-CH

I wasn’t planning on dyeing my hair a different color any time soon because I really love being a pearly blonde. However, I can only have the same hairstyle for so long before I start jonesing for a change. Yesterday, I took out a bottle of Special Effects Cherry Bomb that I’ve had sitting in my kitchen cabinet (next to a list of Occupational Health & Safety Technician Jobs) for nearly nine months and took the plunge.

Blog of a Loser*

Hello hello! I am back from Malaysia where the 2011 Nuffnang Asia-Pacific Blog Awards was held. We stayed at the Marriott in Putrajaya and I woke up this morning (after being dead asleep under my imaginary heated blanket lol for… 16 hours?) feeling just a bit sad to be home. I know things have been quiet around here lately and I doubt that’s going to change soon, what with all the work I have to do. The day before flying to KLIA (we left for Clark International at 530am last Friday), my Macbook Pro decided to take a huge crap on me by refusing to boot. I lost everything… which wasn’t much since I’ve only had Montana for 13 days then. I lost Photoshop, though, and Montana’s little blip made it impossible for me to get any work (I had a sizable list) done.

For those who may have missed my Twitter, Tumblr, and Instagram updates: I did not win in my category (Most Original Blog Design). Congratulations to the folks over at Eat, Show, and Tell for bringing home the shiny trophy and a new Olympus camera (darn, I really wanted that)!

Congratulations, too, to the Philippine bloggers who won in FOUR categories! They are Bim Barbieto from Geek Out for Best Geek Blog, Jenni Epperson (aka Ginny Pearson lol) for Best Lifestyle Blog, Tippy and Pong Go from Googly Gooeys for Best Hidden Gem, and Nina Fuentes from Just Wandering for Best Travel Blog!

I don’t really mind coming home a loser* and missing my 10-year high school reunion (am I really that old?!) because I still got a free trip to Malaysia and had a fabulous time with the Philippine bloggers. I wouldn’t trade in the past weekend for anything else, except maybe my own pet otter. Anyway, I may not have won a glass trophy but I did come home with these two badass things:
