Located on Perak Road in Little India, Footprints Hostel is walking distance from Bugis Junction (and maybe even Mustafa Centre but we’re lazy lots who took the bus and cab to get there). I chanced upon this hostel while browsing HostelWorld because they had early bird rates where a mixed dorm room was half the price at ~12SGD a night.
A bed in Singapore for 400PHP a night?! That’s crazy! I had my reservations but reviews on TripAdvisor and HostelWorld were generally positive so I thought it couldn’t be that bad.
Tin and I LOVED our stay there.
Tin and I stayed at a 10-bed mixed dorm on the third floor (if I remember correctly, Footprints has 4 floors and no elevators). This what ours looked like:
It had that musty male backpacker smell that disappeared when one of our roommates opened the window. Footprints, unfortunately, does not keep the AC in rooms running 24/7. They turn it on at 7pm and off at 930am. The rooms have a wall fan, though!
Lockers are also provided and free for use as long as you bring your own padlock. The room was a bit cramped and some of our roommates snored but that’s just hostel life!
Really glad that they installed a fan in the bathroom because we all know how hot Singapore is!
Toilets and showers have their own separate cubicle so you don’t have to worry (or complain) about toilet seats always being wet. I also like this more “public” arrangement because you don’t have to wait long for a bathroom to free up. Unfortunately, you’ll be able to tell/smell when someone is pooping, heh.
The common area.
I really really like the common area because it’s cold and they have a bunch of movies. Damien, one of the guys who works at the hostel, joked that he’s seen The Dictator maybe 50 times because it gets played at least once a day. True enough, we tried watching it maybe thrice while we were there LOL (never finishing the whole movie).
Footprints also sells a few essentials such as toothpaste and beer.
They have wifi all throughout the hostel and a computer area. Internet connection is very stable!
The kitchen/dining area.
Functional and nothing fancy, with a fridge that guests can use.
The best thing about Footprints is that they have an outdoor area where you can sit, drink, and socialize with the other guests! We had such a blast! It’s so convenient, especially since you can buy beer from them (or walk to a nearby 7-11). In the future, this is the first thing I am going to consider when looking for a hostel.
