Holiday Gift Guide: For Your Guy

(WHAT HAVE I GOTTEN MYSELF INTO? Did I really think I could do 5 gift guides less than 2 weeks before Christmas?)

Boyfriends/significant others can be tricky to shop for because they ping-pong between “you don’t need to get me anything for Christmas” and “I want this *super expensive thing* for Christmas.” RIGHT???

1 – Wii U pro game controller. Perfect for your gamer boyfriend, provided he has the Wii U! Does he have a different gaming console? Easy! Just get him a new video game and call it a day.

2 – The Call of Booty by Halik Ni Gringo. Give your guy the gift of music aka this is me shamelessly plugging my boyfriend’s band’s debut album! Is your guy a Mormon*? Then get him Ang Bandang Shirley’s Tama Na Ang Drama, also available on Wide Eyed Records’ online shop. Other options: their favorite album on vinyl. Twice a year, I wish that M2M would release Shades of Purple on vinyl!

3 – The Monocle Guide to Better Living. For the sophisticated and discerning guy who aspires for the better things in life. Locally, you can get it at Heima.

4 – Commissioned art. There has to come a time in our lives where we say good-bye to bare walls (or walls decked out in posters/magazine pages) and start putting up art. If you can afford it, contact a local artist and have them create something just for your guy. You can even make something yourself, if you’re good at that sort of thing (I’m not). Joey has this quadriptych that he commissioned from our collage artist friend, Jel Suarez, hanging on his office wall. It lights up. It’s great.

5 – New underwear. I read somewhere that guys are supposed to get a new batch of underwear every year and we all know they’re not going to do that for themselves! Now here’s the tricky part: does this responsibility go to the mom or the girlfriend? I’m not sure but I wouldn’t mind if my boyfriend gave me panties for Christmas!

6 – Moleskine Star Wars notebooks. For the Star Wars fan who still prefers old school journaling.

UH SO TRUE. I asked my boyfriend what he wanted for Christmas and he’s like “Oh you can get me anything,” then three days later he asks me if I can get him a Salomon tank top that originally costs an arm and a leg. Good thing it was on sale huhu.
